Request: Hockey Books

GoalieI need some help and I’m hoping that will all the combined knowledge out there in the kidlitosphere this will be easy! I work in a bookstore in Wisconsin and I get at least six requests for kids’ hockey books a day. Any kind of hockey books and all ages are asked for. I know of some, but not nearly enough and I can’t think of hardly any fiction for anyone past the early chapter book level (and beginning readers are scarce too). Good biographies of players would be great, nonfiction on hockey, picture books, beginning readers, middle grade, I even need some fiction for teenagers if it’s out there! Basically, anything beyond Matt Christopher as far as chapter books would be great. I’ve found some suggestions online, but I’d love to hear about any good ones people know of or have read or have heard about. Anything. Even if it’s only available in Canada, it’ll give me something to recommend! Thank you for any suggestions you come up with!

    Hello
Nice to hear someone is desparate for hockey books. My book “The Gifts of Hockey” is available at http://www.Lulu.com or more information is available at http://www.helloneighbour.com or http://www.authorsden.com The book has a foreword by Scotty Bowman although not shown in the second edition (only the second edition is available). The book has been written up twice in the Montreal Gazette which is the oldest English language newspaper in Canada. And the Gazette had the following quote. If you enjoyed reading “The Hockey Sweater”, the story of a young boy growing up in Quebec, then chances are you’ll enjoy a new book titled “The Gift of Hockey”. Please check it out and let me know if we can combine our talents in any way. My six hockey stories in this book are set on the outdoor hockey rink and I hope you know about the big outdoor hockey game on News Years day. Very Best Wishes and I hope to hear from you.

Scott Young, a famous Canadian sports announcer and father of singer Neil Young, wrote a trilogy of hockey stories for young adults. I haven’t read them but they were popular. I’m not sure of the order but they are:
    Boy on Defense
    Scrubs on Skates
A Boy at the Leafs’ Camp

There’s a new picture book out called Dino-Hockey. It’s by Lisa Wheeler and illustrated by Barry Gott.
