The Story of Jane: Tenth Post (Civil Disobediance)

I find it very interesting and a little confusing that the idea “that anyone would commit a crime to get an idea across” was “shocking and dangerous” to “Nick”. It’s been done hundreds of times throughout history and still happens every day. High schools all over the country teach Walden and The Night Thoreau Spent in Jail every year - and breaking unjust laws to prove a point is the whole point of those works! The Boston Tea Party, the Swamp Fox, the actions of Rosa Parks and Harriet Tubman, and even far less famous or effective actions that happen all the time are all acts breaking laws to prove points! Civil disobedience is far from a new idea. Legends, mythology, history and literature are all full of examples. Even the Bible is full of acts of civil disobedience! Jesus himself broke a number of laws to get lessons across and convince people of what he was teaching them! He actively encouraged people to break unjust laws! So how is what Jane was doing a new idea? I would even dispute that the idea was terribly radical!
