The Story of Jane: Twelfth Post (New Skills)

I like that the women of Jane were learning new skills. It gives the group much more credibility and status to not only have several women who could speak persuasively and well on all aspects of the subject but also to have women who can perform every step of the process. Women who had little to no formal medical instruction had been the ones performing abortions for centuries, why shouldn’t the women of Jane perform them too? Besides, how could one feel comfortable recommending women to someone else for a procedure one has never seen? Second-hand reports are never a reliable as witnessing, experiencing or performing the procedure oneself. It was a logical step for the group to take, and it seems to also have been quite some time in coming. Even if I strongly disagree with some of Jenny’s methods, I can certainly stand behind some of her goals!
