This I Believe: Thirteenth Post (Reading)
Azar Nafisi’s essay on the importance of imagination and empathy was wonderful. She argued beautifully that if we can see each other as real people, as Huck saw Jim, then there is hope for us. There is a chance that we can help save each other. Errol Morris’s piece on truth was funny as well as interesting and certainly made me laugh! Rick Moody’s essay was about reading (so of course I liked it). He talked about not only the pleasure of reading, but the freedom of choosing what to read and what to think about it once you’ve read something. It was a good piece.
