Cricket 33/12: Thoughts

Cricket 33/12This was an ok issue of Cricket, but probably not on of the my favorites. The stories “Mama and Lady Washington” and “The Bushwackers” were fun and I liked the strong, resourceful women in them. I look forward to the rest of “Mama and Lady Washington”. “A Blue Moon in a White Sky” was a good story. I loved the kids and their enthusiasm over their art. I wasn’t thrilled with Mike’s dad, but it made a good story. I’m not a big fan of animal stories, so wasn’t wild about “The Pride” or even “Ocean Magic”. “Leonardo’s Dream Horse” was a nicely done piece, but I wasn’t particularly interested in it either. Probably my favorite piece in the issue was “The Golden Lion”. It was not only a great folk/fairy tale, but also beautifully told and illustrated. I also love any story where a girl is willing to do something (however small) to ensure her own happiness. The cover of this issue is very pretty. I love the horses on the front, but it is really the lion that speaks to me! He’s awesome! This is a good issue, but not a great one.
