The Book of Three: Second Post (Taran)
Taran is so very childish and silly at the beginning of this book. His dreams of being a hero are fine, but what he thinks that it means to be one is so very confused. Probably the perfect example of this confusion is his protestation that Coll couldn’t be a great hero because he is so bald. Alexander does a great job of making Taran’s views humorous, but believable. Taran knows hair isn’t a requirement for being a hero, but Coll’s lack of it makes it hard for Taran to see him as a hero just the same. I’m really glad Taran got over those stupid ideas and am glad Eilonwy never had a problem pointing out their stupidity!
