Cricket 34/2: Thoughts

Cricket 34/2This was a fairly interesting issue of Cricket. It had a number of stories about water. Probably the one I found most intriguing was “In Search of…”, the first part of a science fiction story set in the future on another planet. It deals with the decedents of a crashed spacecraft from Earth who have adapted to live in pods underwater. It’s very interesting and I can’t wait to see where it goes! “The Weeping Lass at the Dancing Place” was a delightfully creepy ghost story. “Heart’s Desire” was a fun, unusual retelling of “Cinderella” with a very unusual take on the story. I really liked it and thought the author did a good job of turning some of the images upside-down to make her point. Karen Gottshall echoed that in her poem “The Frog’s Tale”, explaining why the frog might not want to become a prince! My favorite story was the last one, “The Knight’s Cavern”, which is by Elizabeth Daffner and based on a Welsh legend. It was only the first part of the story, but I can’t wait for the next part! The wasn’t a great overall issue, but it had some gems in it and, even better, had the beginnings of a few that could be great!
