Joan of Arc: First Post (Thoughts)
The introduction of this book is very odd. It celebrates the history and the art of this book with great appreciation and respect, but it is very dismissive and even disparaging of the text. While the text of this book may not be strictly accurate, how many biographies really are when you get right down to it? Especially biographies of people who have been dead for 500 years! It’s fairly accurate and the story is told wonderfully, so I’m quite pleased. I think Maurice Boutet de Monvel did a beautiful job with the pictures and the text (to the extent that I can review it, given that I’m reading a translation).
