The Black Cauldron: First Post (First Impressions)
Taran is still clueless at the beginning of this book, although he is slightly better than he was in the first book. He just can’t imagine that Eilonwy might be standing up to him because she is self-confidant and finds his dismissal of her infuriating rather than because she is simply being stubborn! She is stubborn, but largely because she wants to be treated with respect and refuses to settle for anything less. She is very strong at this point in the story. Taran is terrible at recogizing that in this book!
