The Black Cauldron: Second Post (Adaon)
Adaon is such a great character and it always makes me really sad that he dies. He is what Taran is supposed to become (and eventually Taran does become an awful lot like him). I really like that Taran meets this more mature man who is wise and sees what he must eventually see. I guess that I always imagined that Taran remembered Adaon and strove to be like him. The fourth book is basically him making that transition, I just don’t remember it actually invoking Adaon’s memory by name or anything. Everything Adaon says about honor in a field well ploughed, though, is the kind of thing Taran comes to learn in Taran Wanderer. I think it’s interesting, like a glimpse into the future!
