Taran seems to honestly believe that Dallben would have known another way to destroy the cauldron, despite all evidence to the contrary. There really is no reason for him to believe that, yet he does. He has a childish belief in the absolute power of his teacher, but he doubts the three women who show all the signs of having near-absolute power. It’s crazy.
