Cricket 34/3: Thoughts

Cricket 34/3This was an interesting issue of Cricket. My favorite one-shot story was “Loki and the Apples of the Gods”. It was not only a fun, light-hearted retelling of a Norse myth, but it had fabulous illustrations! They are beautiful cut-paper works of art by Patrick Gannon and probably some of my favorite Cricket art to date! The other one-shot stories were good as well. “The Mousewife” was quiet and sweet, but very pretty and well-done. I’d love to read the original that it was based on. “The Holding-On Night” was also a great story. It almost made me cry at one point. The two stories continued from last time remained excellent. “The Knights’ Cavern” ended in this issue and had a delightful ending. It is indeed a very Welsh story! “In Search Of…” continued (and has not finished yet) with an interesting twist. I’m certainly fascinated. It’s an excellent science fiction story. There was a great non-fiction account of an American battalion in World War I and the carrier pigeon that saved it. I also found the piece about the research being done on the stickiness of gecko’s feet absolutely fascinating. Imagine really having Slippers of Spider Climb some day! They might really be possible! Anyhow, this was a fascinating issue and I thoroughly enjoyed it!
