Lingerie: Sixth Post (Travel)
I hadn’t connected the advent of train travel with the bustle, but the connection makes a lot of sense. One could hardly get into a train car with a five-foot wide crinoline. I think the car connection is inaccurate, since automobiles weren’t popular until quite a bit later, but given the number of strange statements in this book I probably shouldn’t be surprised!
