Things Fall Apart: Second Post (Women)
It really sucks to be a woman in Okonkwo’s life. His wives are given everything they need except for love and attention and Okonkwo generally treats them dreadfully. What must it be like to be one of his daughters, barely ever even noticed? He considers “woman” to be the worst insult one could throw at a man, so he can’t even conceive of women being worthy of any respect at all. They are worse than property, they are property that is expected to enjoy its status as property. Okonkwo is a pretty horrible person. He makes my skin crawl!
