Norse Myths and Classical Myths: Twenty-Second Post (Introduction)

Norse Myths and Classical MythsHawthorne’s introduction to Tanglewood Tales was rather odd. It’s a long description of a series of events that are neither particularly remarkable nor particularly interesting and the whole thing seems to exist primarily to tell us how effortlessly brilliant the stories are and how very famous and generous, yet humble, Hawthorne is. And, of course, the whole ‘humble’ thing seems rather negated by the fact that he wrote this strange introduction at all! It’s all extremely strange and I really have trouble understanding what the point is!
