Norse Myths and Classical Myths: Twenty-Seventh Post (Little Girls)
I really don’t understand why Hawthorne turned Porserpina and Europa into little girls. It feels like he wanted to remove any hint of sex by doing so, but he most definitely didn’t, which really only makes the stories creepier. A lot creepier. As sinister as the stories felt before, this feels so much worse! And I really don’t think that’s just my modern outlook, I think there’s a good chance it would have been sinister and creepy in his time too. Ick!
