Norse Myths and Classical Myths: Twenty-Ninth Post (Lessons?)
I really don’t know what to take away from Hawthorne’s retelling of the Echo and Narcissus myth. He’s cut romance and love out of the stories so extremely that it seems like if he’s telling this story there must be a purpose for it, a lesson or something. But what was the lesson? Don’t fall in love or you’ll get punished? It just seemed like a weird story to be included.
