The Arrival: Thoughts
This is a really amazing book visually. Tan has managed to tell an immigration story with all of the strangeness and otherworldliness in his art that immigrants experience when they arrive in a new place where everything is alien and incomprehensible. This book has moments of incredible human warmth and hominess as well as moments of utter strangeness and confusion. The sepia tones are perfect and add to the feeling that this could have happened somewhere. This really is an incredible, powerful book and I’m extremely impressed with it!
