Action Figures: Thoughts

Posted in Art, Childrens, Picture Books at 7:22 am by Rosepixie

This was a great collection of paintings on a theme, like Raczka’s book with paintings of people reading was. Unfortunately, the text wasn’t as good in this one. Still, the book is interesting and enjoyable to look through.

Artful Reading: Thoughts

This is a marvelous book! Not only does it celebrate reading of all kinds, but it does so with a huge variety of paintings spanning centuries! It’s so much fun to see so many different paintings of people reading. I also liked the blurbs at the end which gave more information about the artists and paintings. This is really a wonderful book.

The Vermeer Interviews: More Thoughts

Posted in Art, Childrens at 4:14 am by Rosepixie

This is a very appealing format for a book looking at different paintings. The only thing that I’m not wild about is that sometimes it’s not always super clear if something is known for certain about a painting or is merely the author’s supposition or theory. I wish that it was clearer! Still, this is a great book and I hope that Raczka does more like it.

The Vermeer Interviews: Thoughts

This is a fascinating book. I’d love to see more books in the same vein! The interviews are fun to read and so full of information! They teach about the artist, the time period, the place and how to read a painting. The little details are picked out beautifully and tricks with light and colors and shapes are shown nicely.
