The discussion of children’s different styles of play was really intriguing. I do definitely understand and see the differences in their interactions, but the discussion mostly made me want to figure out how to change things. Is there any way to teach children to either play both ways or play in some kind of combination?
I like that Dr. Tannen acknowledges that men and women’s different languages may be a cultural difference as much as anything else. I very much appreciate that she believes that women shouldn’t have to do all the changing, as men are not necessarily the norm. This is so far from the common perception that it is rarely even noticed as a potential way of thinking. I’m excited to read this book and hope that it proves as interesting as it seems to be!
