The Play’s the Thing
The Book of Pooh
“Honey Glazed Hamlet”
Pooh:
Welcome wondrous to our wood,
Forsooth we’re putting on a play.
Tigger:
If thou thinks we’re talkin’ funny,
Please don’t turn and walk away!
Kessie:
See, there was this guy named William Shakespeare
Who wrote the way that now we sing!
Piglet:
So watch as we strut and fret the while!
Pooh:
And soon you will see
All:
The play’s the thing!
Owl:
How true! How true!
Rabbit:
Friends, owls and countrymen!
Lend me your ears!
Tigger:
Why? Don’t ‘cha have enough of your own,
My floppy buddy?
Owl:
Lovely! Lovely!
Pooh:
Wonderful plays wrote William Shakespeare,
Piglet:
Fit for a piglet or a king!
Tigger:
So if you think ya’ got what it takes pig,
Kessie:
Try it thyself!
All:
The play’s the thing!
Tigger:
Just remember to speakerize tripigisticly on the tongue!
Pooh:
Alas, poor honey jar! I knew thee well!
Piglet? Wherefore art thou Piglet?
Piglet:
Over here, Pooh!
Pooh:
Well, could you pull this jar off my head?
Thank you, Piglet!
Owl:
Oh ho! Magnificent!
Eeyore:
Am I not wise as I am beautiful?
Owl:
Why you remind me of Shakespeare’s Bottom!
Eeyore:
Gee, thanks.
Owl:
No, thank you!
Ah, my friends, how well and good!
You’ve brought such joy here to our wood!
And as at Oxford we loved to sing,
With a hey nonny nonny!
Tigger:
And a ring a ding ding!
Rabbit:
That there’s work and there’s play,
Owl:
But as Will used to say,
All:
Hip hip hooray! The play’s the thing!
Piglet:
Good gentles remember!
Owl:
The play -
All:
The play -
The play’s the thing!
